We hope to submit a planning application for consideration by the Council in March 2023. We will continue to work with and update the community throughout.
What People Have Said So Far
In December 2022 we undertook public consultation, including:
- A leaflet drop to 800 homes and businesses in the area
- A drop-in consultation event on 5th December at Elmgreen school
- Posters and leaflets distributed to venues in the local area
- A widespread social media campaign, asking people to provide feedback
- Targeting commuters outside the station with leaflets
We received over 2,500 responses to our online survey.
A summary of the online feedback received:
- When redeveloping the site providing affordable homes was the community’s most important consideration out of the options provided, followed by the importance of sustainability and provision of green spaces.
- When asked what the most important thing to consider when designing the buildings was, affordability was voted the top option again, followed by energy-efficient homes and build quality.
- We asked people what they thought the non-residential ground floor use should be used for, the top 3 responses were:
- Community facilities, shops, cafes and gyms
- Community hub for children and young people
- Space for local independent businesses
- We asked people what else they thought was important to consider when redeveloping the site, the most frequent response was traffic and transport, followed by community, environment and the architecture.
- We also asked people what else they thought was important to consider when designing the buildings, architecture, environmental impact, green spaces/playground and parking were the top responses.
- Key themes from those living closest to the site were the need for more convenient stores, community facilities and cafes, spaces for local community, additional trees and green landscaping, concerns over height and loss of light.
People asked to see more detail on what the scheme could look like too, please see our update on the Design Update page.
